I'm a front end engineer currently working at Yahoo! on the global search team. I create stunning applications & designs used by millions of people.

This application was developed for the Facebook platform and targeted University students in the United Kingdom. It was a competition which allowed users to vote, comment, add photos and become fans of other contestants, along with numerous other features.

The site was developed using PHP / MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and FBML. It has features such as contestent profiles, discussion boards, photo galleries and rankings of each contestant, as well as their various Universities. MySQL was heavily used for both the storing & retrieving of data as well as customized searches.

Facebook applications are generally not compliant with W3C standards as they use their own markup language called FBML and FBJS. It was also decided that in order to monetize this application, the traditional CPM and CPA banners would not be used.

Instead I decided to utilize virtual currency, where contestents could fill out simple surveys in return for points, which in turn would be used to unlock features in the application. Therefore I could generate a higher revenue from the 3rd party companies providing these surveys than with traditional banner advertising.
